Etymology: Originally a variant of unride adj.; in later use associated with rude adj.Also attested in surnames, as Rogerus Unrude (1258), Petr. Unruyde (1327), Petr. Unrude (1332).
Obsolete.
1. Rough, violent, dangerous; inspiring fear or horror, esp. owing to enormous size or capacity to cause harm. In later use Scottish (in weakened sense): outrageous, detestable.
