Etymology: < Latin transfīx-, participial stem of transfīgĕre , < trans- prefix + fīgĕre to fix v. Compare Old French transfixer (15th cent. in Godefroy).
a. transitive. To pierce through with, or impale upon, a sharp-pointed instrument (also said of the instrument); to fix or fasten by piercing.
