Etymology: < medieval (ecclesiastical) Latin trentāle (12th cent. in Du Cange), < popular Latin *trenta , *trinta ( < Latin trīgintā , whence French trente thirty) + -ālis , -āle , -al suffix1. So Old French trentel (12th cent. in Godefroy).
