Etymology: modern French treillis; Old French treliz, Latin *trilīcium, < trilīx, -līcem, the original sense of which it closely preserves.
A stout or coarse kind of cloth; in later use, buckram, sacking (‘toile grossière pour sacs, vêtements de travail’, Hatzfeld & Darmesteter; see also Littré s.v. senses 5, 6). See also trailȝe n.
