Etymology: < scientific Latin Tragulus, genus name (see tragule n.) + -oid suffix, after Traguloidea, superfamily name (T. Gill 1871, in Smithsonian Misc. Coll. (1874) 11 i. 80). Compare scientific Latin traguloides, specific name (1838).

Of or relating to the superfamily Traguloidea, which comprises the chevrotains and extinct relatives.Sometimes regarded as consisting only of the family Tragulidae (cf. tragulid n.), sometimes as equivalent to the infraorder Tragulina (cf. traguline adj. 2).
