A marine echinoderm of the class Ophiuroidea, somewhat resembling a starfish but having long, thin, brittle arms that radiate from a flattened central disc; an ophiuroid.In quot. 1841: spec. one of the genus Ophiocoma.Unlike starfishes, brittlestars move by using their arms rather than their tube feet (podia).
