A path or track suitable for use by horses or people on horseback. Now chiefly: spec. (in England and Wales) a public right of way (typically one passing through countryside) which is not open to horse-drawn and motorized vehicles but may be accessed on horseback as well as on foot, by bicycle, etc. Cf. bridle path n., bridle road n., bridle track n., bridle trail n. at bridle n. Compounds 2a.
