1. The small fleshy orange fruit of a large tropical evergreen tree native to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, Brosimum alicastrum (family Moraceae), containing a single large seed eaten boiled, roasted, or ground into flour; the seed of this fruit. Also: the tree itself.
