单词 | brackett |
释义 | Brackettn. Physics. Used attributively to designate a series of lines discovered by Brackett in 1922 ( Astrophysical Jrnl. LVI. 154) in the infra-red part of the spectrum of atomic hydrogen, with wave numbers represented by the formula R(1/42 − 1/m2) (where R is the Rydberg constant and m = 5, 6,…), of which the first line is at 4·04 micrometres and the series limit is at 1·46 micrometres. Hindmarsh Atomic Spectra ii. 13 Ritz..proposed his well-known combination principle in 1908; he recognized that the wave-numbers of the lines could always be represented as a difference between two terms... It was with the use of this principle that the Paschen, Lyman, Brackett and Pfund series in the spectrum of hydrogen were predicted..before they were known experimentally. 1970 D. W. Tenquist et al. Univ. Optics II. ii. 43 Lines in the infra-red part of the spectrum are caused by transitions terminating at n = 3 (Paschen series), n = 4 (Brackett series) and n = 5 (Pfund series).
