Etymology: < Old French brasseüre (Latin type *bracchiātūra , < bracchium arm); influenced by the synonymous French brassard , and by analogy of -er suffix1: compare bordure, border.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈbracer.
The portion of a suit of armour covering the arm. Also a sort of guard for the wrist used in archery, in fencing, and in playing games at ball.
