1. A person who goes away, leaves, deserts, etc. In later use chiefly in negative contexts, esp. in to be no starter.
a. A person who runs away; a deserter. Also, without reference to physical movement: a person who fails to show loyalty or commitment to a principle, cause, task, etc. (sometimes with from), or who is ready to give up on or abandon something; a fickle or inconstant person; a shirker; a quitter. Obsolete.Earliest in starter aside; in later use chiefly with reference to leaving a gathering of people drinking together.
