单词 tiro
释义

tirotyron.

/ˈtʌɪərəʊ/
Forms: Plural -oes, -os /-əʊz/. Forms: α. 1600s tyron, tyrone, plural 1600s–1800s tyrones /-ˈəʊniːz/. β. 1600s–1800s tyro, 1700s–1800s tiro, plural 1600s–1700s tyro's, 1600s– tyros, tyroes, 1700s– tiroes.
Etymology: < Latin tīro, plural tīrōnēs (in medieval Latin often spelt tyro, tyrones: so in Du Cange), a young soldier, a recruit, a beginner; Italian tirone, Spanish tiron. Commonly spelt tyro, after medieval Latin, down to the date of Cowper's Tirocinium, 1784, and still so spelt by the majority of writers; in the 17th cent. tyrone was even written for Italian tirone, and tyrones as plural after Latin is found down to 1824. But a plural of English form tyroes (compare heroes, negroes) is found in 1672, and tyros in 1690; Cowper has tiroes.
A beginner or learner in anything; one who is learning or who has mastered the rudiments only of any branch of knowledge; a novice.
