tingle-tanglen.2

Brit. /ˈtɪŋɡlˌtaŋɡl/, U.S. /ˈtɪŋɡ(ə)lˌtæŋɡ(ə)l/
Forms: 1800s– tingle-tangle, 1900s– tingel-tangel.
Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Tingeltangel.
Etymology: < German Tingeltangel (1872, in Tingeltangel-Sang ʻtingle-tangle songʼ, Tingeltangel-Klänge ʻtingle-tangle soundsʼ, or earlier), of imitative origin (compare early modern German ting tang and tingel with reference to percussive sounds, and compare also tingle-tangle n.1), probably with allusion to the sound of the instruments employed in the music played in such establishments.
