Etymology: < tilt n.2 or tilt v.1Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈtilt-hammer.
A heavy hammer used in forging, fixed on a pivot and acted upon by a cam-wheel or an eccentric, which alternately tilts it up and allows it to drop.
