Etymology: Back-formation < tight-assed adj.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈtight-ass.
slang (originally and chiefly U.S.).
An inhibited or strait-laced person; occasionally a stingy person, a skinflint. Frequently attributive passing into adj. = tight-assed adj.; occasionally applied (literal) to clothes: fitting tightly around the buttocks.
