单词 therio-
释义

therio-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly.
Forms: before a vowel theri- /θɪərɪ/.
Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Latin. Partly a borrowing from Greek Etymons: Latin therio-; Greek θηριο-.
Etymology: < (i) post-classical Latin and scientific Latin therio- (in e.g. theriologicus theriologic adj. ), and its etymon (ii) Hellenistic Greek θηριο-, combining form (in e.g. θηριότροφος : see theriotrophical adj. ) of ancient Greek θηρίον wild animal ( < θήρ wild beast (see thero- comb. form) + -ίον , diminutive suffix); compare -o- connective.
