Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: tellurium n., -ite suffix1.
Etymology: < tellur- (in tellurium n.) + -ite suffix1. In senses 1 and 3 after German Tellurit (1798 denoting tellurium, 1845 denoting telluric ochre). In sense 2 after French tellurite (1833 in the passage translated in quot. 1834 at sense 2, or earlier).
1. Chemistry. The element tellurium; native tellurium (cf. sylvanite n. 1). Obsolete.
