单词 tapet
释义

tapetn.

Forms: Old English tęped, tæpped, tæppet; Middle English (1800s) tapit, Middle English tapyt, Middle English–1500s tapite, tapyte, tapete (also 1800s), Middle English tapytt, tapytte, ( tepit), Middle English–1500s tapett, tapette, tappet, 1500s tappett, tappette, Scottish tapeit, taphet, Middle English– tapet.
Etymology: The Old English tęped was West German < late Latin tapētum : compare Old High German tęppid , tęppith (more usually tęppih , German teppich ). The later Old English tæpped , -et (compare also Middle Low German teppet ) may have been re-influenced by Latin. Middle English tapet , tapit , etc. perhaps came down from Old English; but the word may have been introduced anew in 13th cent. from Latin, or from Provençal tapit or other Romanic form: compare Middle Dutch tapijt , and see tapis n.
Obsolete (exc. Historical).
a. A piece of figured cloth used as a hanging, table-cover, carpet, or the like.
