Politics each of a fixed number of days on which a legislative assembly debates an opposition motion criticizing the government's proposed expenditure (cf. sense 10a).Originally and chiefly with reference to the British House of Commons (now called an opposition day); later used with reference to other assemblies, esp. the Canadian House of Commons (more commonly called an allotted day or opposition day).
