Etymology: < over- prefix + pitch n.2 (although this is first attested later in the relevant sense: compare pitch n.2 2a) + -ed suffix2. Compare later pitched adj.2 6. Compare underpitched adj. N.E.D. (1904) gives the pronunciation of the second element as (-pitʃt) /-pɪtʃt/.
Obsolete. rare.
Of a roof: having a greater than ordinary pitch; having an excessive slope.
