Etymology: < post-classical Latin subrision-, subrisio smile (early 5th cent. in Jerome) < classical Latin subrīs- , past participial stem of subrīdēre subride v. + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare earlier subride v. N.E.D. (1914) gives the pronunciation as (sɒ̆bri·ʒən) /səˈbrɪʒən/.
