A person who advocates or campaigns for extension of the right to vote in political elections to a particular group, esp. (from the late 19th cent.) women. Frequently with modifying word, as female suffragite, universal suffragite, etc.In the 20th cent., once suffragette and suffragist were fully established as the preferred terms, suffragite was mainly used in representations of colloquial speech or writing to indicate a lack of education or sophistication on the part of the speaker.
