Etymology: < post-classical Latin subintellection-, subintellectio (from c1200 in British sources; also in continental sources) < subintellect- , past participial stem of subintellegere (see subintellect v.) + classical Latin -iō -ion suffix1.
Now rare.
The action or an act of mentally supplying something that is not expressed; something that is implied or understood; an implied or understood meaning. Cf. subaudition n. 1.
