Etymology: < post-classical Latin subintellect-, past participial stem of subintellegere (also subintelligere) to supply in thought, understand (early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < classical Latin sub- sub- prefix + intellegere (see intelligent adj.). Compare subintelligitur n.
Obsolete. rare.
transitive. Usually in passive. To supply mentally (something that is absent or missing); to tacitly understand.
