Any or all of several polycyclic glucosides obtained from certain varieties of plants of the genera Strophanthus and Acokanthera and used as cardioactive drugs; G-strophanthin or g-strophanthin (also strophanthin-G, strophanthin-g) [Latin g(rātus agreeable] , the primary active component, C29H44O12, of the mixture obtained from S. gratus, A. schimperi, or A. ouabaio; also called ouabane; H-strophanthin, h-strophanthin, etc. [Latin h(ispidus hairy] , a mixture of the glucosides obtained from the seeds of S. hispidus; K-strophanthin, k-strophanthin, etc., [kombé n.] , C36H54O14, the principle extract from S. kombe, also called kombé n.
