Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin stupent-, stupēns, stupēre.
Etymology: < classical Latin stupent-, stupēns numbed, insensible, use as adjective of present participle of stupēre to be or become numb or paralysed, to be or become stunned, dazed, speechless, to be amazed < the same Indo-European base as (without movable s-) ancient Greek τύπτειν to strike.
Now rare.
In a state of stupor or amazement; stupefied, astounded; confounded or dumbfounded.
