Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: strategy n., -ery suffix.
Etymology: < strateg- (in strategy n.) + -ery suffix. In sense 2 humorously representing a malapropism.
1. depreciative. The use of devious or dishonest schemes, tricks, or ploys, in order to achieve a particular end. Cf. stratagem n. 2b. Obsolete.
