/ˈsteɪv tʃəːtʃ/, U.S. /ˈsteɪv ˌtʃərtʃ/ A church of a characteristically Scandinavian type, typically constructed entirely from wood, having vertical timber walling and steeply pitched roofs, and often elaborately decorated with carving. Cf. stave n.2 4c(b).Churches of this sort are mainly located in modern Norway and mostly date from the medieval period.
