Etymology: Of uncertain origin, but perhaps related to spud n., spuddle v.First recorded in Newfoundland sources, though the English dialect uses doubtless predate this.

A small bowl or bucket with a long handle used for scooping water (esp. when bailing out a boat) and for similar purposes.
