Etymology: < Yiddish bokher (with Ashkenazic pronunciation) < Hebrew baḥur young man. With the specific use compare yeshiva bochur n.The β. forms reflect remodelling after the ulterior Hebrew etymon.
Chiefly in Jewish usage.
A boy or young man; spec. a student of Talmudic and rabbinical writings at a yeshiva (yeshiva n.). Cf. yeshiva bochur n.
