1943 B. Miall tr. K. Geiringer Mus. Instruments 133 An extremely rare variant of the Bassoon was the Sordune... This consisted of a gracefully turned wooden billet containing not merely two but sometimes three parallel cylindrical bores.
1977 Early Music Apr. (advt.) (recto rear cover) The Sordunes which Praetorius..illustrates in Syntagma Musicum 1619 show a controlled reed instrument of two parallel bores with a bocal tapering towards the end of its length. The Sordune is a useful bridge between the windcap range of instruments, and the controlled reed instruments.
