Etymology: < social adj. + credit n.
1. Also with lower-case initials. An economic theory advocating that consumer purchasing power should be increased either by subsidizing producers so that they can reduce prices or by distributing the profits of industry to the general public; a movement advocating this. Also occasionally: a subsidy paid under this system.Social Credit was first proposed by C. H. Douglas (see Douglas n.4).
