Any of several North American trees of the genus Nyssa (family Nyssaceae); esp. N. sylvatica, chiefly of eastern and southern areas, sometimes grown as an ornamental for its striking autumn foliage. Also: †the fruit produced by this tree, a blue-black oval drupe (obsolete).
