Etymology: < the name of Skiddaw, a mountain in the English Lake District.

1. Skiddaw slate n. (also Skiddaw slates) a thick group of slates, flags, and mudstones that outcrops in the northern part of the Lake District and out of which Skiddaw and neighbouring mountains have been eroded.
