Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin sinistr- , sinister , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < classical Latin sinistr-, stem of sinister sinister adj. + -ous suffix. Compare sinister adj., sinistral adj.With the form senistreous at β. forms compare -eous suffix. In British English, stress on the second syllable is sometimes found in verse, and is also recorded in the 19th century for sense 6.
