Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin Simosaurus.
Etymology: < scientific Latin Simosaurus Simosaurus n.: see -saur comb. form. Compare slightly later Simosaurus n.
Palaeontology.
Any of a group of extinct, long-necked marine reptiles known from fossil remains of Triassic age found in Europe, comprising the genus Simosaurus and family Simosauridae, and usually regarded as nothosaurs.
