Etymology: Hindi and Urdu, < Persian shīsha glass, mirror.
Used attributively in shisha embroidery, shisha stitch, shisha work, etc. to designate mirror work (see mirror n. Compounds 2) and items connected with it.

Brit. /ˈʃiːʃə/, U.S. /ˈʃiʃə/
Forms: 1800s– sheesha, 1800s– sheesheh, 1800s– shisha.
Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymon: Arabic šīša.
Etymology: < Egyptian Arabic šīša hookah (originally spec. the glass flask through which the smoke is drawn into the mouth), tobacco for smoking in a hookah < either Persian šīša glass or Turkish şişe glass.
In Arabic-speaking countries, esp. Egypt.
