Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Septimole.
Etymology: < German Septimole (1783 or earlier), probably < classical Latin septimus seventh (see septime n.1) + -ole (in German Triole triole n.). Compare quintole n.
Music.
A group of seven notes, or notes and rests, to be played in the time of a smaller number of notes of the same kind, and usually designated by a figure 7.septuplet n. 1b is now the more common term.
