Etymology: < medieval Greek Βογόμιλος, of disputed origin; the first syllable may represent Russian Bog God. O.E.D. Suppl. (1933) enters this under the double headword Bogomil, -mile and gives the pronunciations (bōu·gŏmil, bǫ-, -məil) /ˈbəʊɡəmɪl/, /bɒ-/, /-maɪl/.
Historical.
A member of a heretical Bulgarian sect which arose in the 10th or 11th century, whose main tenet was that God the Father had two sons, Satan and Christ.
