Etymology: < Semite n. + -o- connective + Hamitic adj. Compare earlier Hamitic-Semitic adj., Hamito-Semitic adj. With use as noun compare earlier Hamito-Semitic n.In sense A. 2 after Italian semito-hamitico (1877 in the passage translated in quot. 1879).
