Origin: A borrowing from Latin, combined with English elements. Etymons: Seres n., Latin Sērēs , -ian suffix.
Etymology: < Ser- (in Seres n. or its etymon classical Latin Sērēs) + -ian suffix. Compare Seric adj. 2.With the α. forms compare -ean suffix. The following apparent earlier example occurs in an account of events in Egypt, and probably shows a different word, of uncertain meaning:1598 G. Chapman Blinde Begger of Alexandria sig. E4v As I was walking through the Serian groues I sawe [etc.].
