scoring circle n. (in various team sports and games) a marked area on the playing surface, spec. (a) chiefly Hockey and Lacrosse either of the marked areas in front of or surrounding the goal at each end of the pitch; (b) a marked area into which a playing piece must land in order for any points to be scored.
