单词 sateen
释义

sateenn.adj.

Brit. /saˈtiːn/, /səˈtiːn/, U.S. /sæˈtin/, /səˈtin/
Forms: 1800s satteen, 1800s– sateen, 1900s satine.
Origin: A variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: satin n.
Etymology: Alteration of satin n., after velveteen n.
A. n.
A fabric made with a satin weave, typically from short-staple yarns such as cotton, linen, or wool, resulting in a smooth, glossy surface like that of satin. In sateen, the arrangement of warp and weft threads is usually a reversal of that of satin, the threads of the weft, caught and looped by the warp only at certain intervals, forming the face of the fabric. In some early uses it is unclear if the word is simply an alternative spelling of satin (see satin n.) rather than the distinct fabric now known as sateen.
