Etymology: modern Latin; originally Sarracēna (Tournefort 1700, after Dr. D. Sarrazin of Quebec who sent him the plant).
Botany.
A genus of insectivorous plants, the type of the N.O. Sarraceniaceæ, to which belong many of the plants popularly known as pitcher-plants.
