Etymology: < the genitive of the name of Paolo Savi (1798–1871), Italian zoologist and geologist, who first described this bird in 1824 ( Nuovo Giornale de Letterati 7 341) + warbler n.

A migratory warbler, Locustella luscinioides (family Sylviidae), breeding in reed beds from Europe to central Asia, which resembles the reed warbler ( Acrocephalus scirpaceus) but has a reeling song similar to that of the grasshopper warbler ( L. naevia).
