See also sessa int. The French exclamation çà, çà, reduplication of çà (lit. here, hither), ‘interjection familière pour exciter, encourager’ (Littré). Formerly used by fencers when delivering a thrust. Also attributive as in sa-sa man [compare French faire le çà-çà galant homme (16th cent. in Littré)] ; and quasi-n. as a nickname for a fencing master. Cf. Dutch sa sa, ‘come on, cheer up, quickly, an interjection much used to stir up fighting dogs’ (Sewel).]
