Origin: Of multiple origins. Partly a borrowing from Tagalog. Partly a borrowing from Spanish. Etymons: Tagalog sala, salas; Spanish sala.
Etymology: Partly < (i) Tagalog sala living room, (now also) court of law, and its etymon (ii) Spanish sala living room, courtroom, court of law (see sala n.1), and partly (iii) (in β. forms) < Tagalog salas living room < Spanish salas, plural of sala.
Philippine English.
