In England and Wales: a (category of) public right of way officially designated as a road or highway but in practice used principally as a footpath or bridleway.In May 2006 remaining RUPPs were reclassified as either a Restricted Byway (prohibited to motorized vehicular traffic), or a Byway Open to All Traffic (cf. BOAT n.2); many had already been reclassified under the 1968 Countryside Act. ΚΠ 1964 in Cartogr. Jrnl.
