Origin: A borrowing from Arabic. Etymon: Arabic rūmiyya.
Etymology: < Arabic rūmiyya, feminine of rūmī Roumi n.
In Arabic-speaking countries: a non-Muslim European female; (formerly) spec. one from the European territories of the Ottoman Empire. Cf. Roumi n.
