Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin paganitas.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin paganitas the condition of being a pagan, pagan belief, paganism (late 4th cent.) < paganus pagan n. + -tas (see -ty suffix1; compare -ity suffix). Compare Christianity n. Compare Middle French paganité (1498; compare Old French paieneté (c1155), Middle French, French †payenneté (1549; 1611 in Cotgrave)). Compare earlier paganism n. N.E.D. (1904) gives only the pronunciation (păgæ·nĭti) /pəˈɡænɪtɪ/.
Now rare.
